This is a basic online course about Medical Device Development designed for new professionals or those just entering the field. The material provides a comprehensive overview of medical device development from a realistic industrial perspective, utilizing recorded lectures and slides. Participants will explore the processes companies use to conceive and develop medical devices, covering research, regulatory, clinical, quality assurance/quality control, marketing, engineering, and legal aspects—all framed within project management techniques. The course is 100% online and is modeled after the “Medical Device Development” class taught at the New Jersey Institute of Technology since 2009. Students will gain a broad understanding of the early phases of device design, with no prior knowledge of medical devices or their development required. The curriculum is structured to ensure that new students can fully grasp the content, regardless of their background, and will be supported by quizzes and supplemental resources to reinforce learning.
